These tefillin are made with a commitment to vegan- and vegetarian-conscious values. While our aspiration is always to prepare parchment, batim, straps, and scrolls from roadkill, to meet demand we may also use hides from hunted deer or from farm animals that died accidentally. Hunted animals lived fully wild lives until their final moments, and hides are purchased from individual, subsistence hunters. If you prefer one source over another, please let us know.
Discounted tefillin started out as custom made tefillin but may contain aesthetic irregularities in the parchment, batim (boxes), or retzuot (straps). These imperfections—whether small holes, uneven surfaces, or visible corrections—do not affect their kashrut.
